Ascot Racecourse Restaurant
F. Ball and Co. Ltd’s Stopgap 1200 and dual-bond adhesive system have been used by flooring contractors from Harris & Hiscock Ltd. to install luxury Walton carpet as part of the refurbishment of the ON 5 restaurant at Ascot Racecourse.
Situated on the fifth floor of the grandstand, the flagship fine dining restaurant at Ascot Racecourse offers private hospitality and spectacular views of the track, a private balcony, roof terrace and bar.
How were F. Ball’s flooring products used, and why?
Contractors applied Stopgap 1200 smoothing compound throughout the entire area to create a perfectly smooth surface for floorcoverings. The product is formulated so that it can be applied over old adhesive residues, eliminating the need for mechanical removal and saving time in these situations. It is low-odour, self-smoothing and fast-drying. Applied at a thickness of 2-5mm, it is walk-on hard from 60 minutes and dry enough to receive floorcoverings in as little as four hours.
Contractors installed Walton carpet in the entrance areas using a dual bond system. This involved using Styccobond F3 to create a permanent bond between carpet and underlay, with Styccobond F40 providing a peelable bond between the underlay and subfloor. This prevents floorcoverings moving laterally when subject to normal foot traffic but allows them to be easily lifted without damaging the subfloor when it eventually needs replacing.
Wood floorcoverings were then installed in the lounge areas.
