Meet the Team: Phoebe Cawley-Davies

We sit down with Environment and Sustainability Advisor Phoebe Cawley-Davies to discuss her journey from A levels to a degree apprenticeship, and how she is helping F. Ball shape a greener future.

Phoebe originally applied for the role of SHEQ Assistant as part of an apprenticeship shortly after completing her A levels. We started by asking her about what attracted her to an apprenticeship and her progression with the company.

“At the time, I didn’t think that university was the right path for me – I really wanted to gain practical experience, ensure I had strong career prospects and avoid taking on student debt.”

Now with the company for just over three years, Phoebe notes that her focus on sustainability has developed more strongly over the last two years.

“I’m now working toward taking ownership of projects and putting identified sustainable actions into place. I’m also currently completing a degree apprenticeship in Environmental Science at Keele University, which allows me to learn from the experience of my colleagues at F. Ball alongside my formal studies.”

She adds that the role has had a significant impact on her personal development: “I have really enjoyed it so far, and it has helped me massively in developing my confidence and interpersonal skills.”

Aside from her degree, Phoebe has already completed a Level 3 in Business Administration and achieved her National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) certificate. Her specialised training also covers areas such as COSHH, safety data sheet writing, PAS 79 fire risk assessment, first aid, and flood risk assessment.

When asked what she enjoys most about her work, Phoebe highlights making a real difference.

What I find most rewarding is suggesting improvements and focusing on the company’s sustainable development. One of my proudest achievements so far was completing a gap analysis, highlighting where the business is already performing well and identifying clear next steps for further improvement.”

Looking ahead, Phoebe says she is working toward taking ownership of more projects and putting identified sustainable actions into place. She also hopes to continue developing through ongoing study and practical experience.

“In the longer term, I want to work more closely with our suppliers and customers to support our sustainability objectives and help reduce our overall carbon footprint,” she adds.

Finally, we asked her what she likes to do to switch off outside of work?

In my spare time, I like reading and staying active through running. I also love going for walks in the Peak District,” she says.
