F. Ball STEPS into refurbishment

F. Ball and Co. Ltd. has donated market-leading subfloor preparation products and flooring adhesives to the STEPS charity in Leicestershire. Stopgap Isolator Membrane and Styccobond F47 adhesive were used as part of an extensive refurbishment of the existing STEPS conductive education centre.

A registered charity, STEPS provides nursery facilities for children with specialist educational needs, such as Down’s Syndrome or cerebral palsy. The charity also offers ongoing support for parents and families once the children reach school age.

Donations from F. Ball and other local businesses enabled the existing hall at the STEPS centre to be renovated, providing additional educational resources. The new facility now includes a theatre/function room which can be hired by external parties, helping to increase the funding and secure the future of the charity.

During the refurbishment, tests carried out on the hall revealed a high level of moisture in the subfloor. As such, F. Ball supplied Stopgap Isolator Membrane to cover the 60m2 area of the hall. Suitable for use on most subfloors, including contaminated floors, Stopgap Isolator is a loose lay, impervious laminated sheet. Designed to provide a moisture barrier to damp subfloors, the membrane contains nodules on its underside which create an airspace between the membrane and subfloor, allowing water vapour to escape into a dry wall or ventilated skirting.

F. Ball also donated Styccobond F47 adhesive to secure the Polyflor Forest FX floorcovering to the Isolator Membrane. A pressure sensitive adhesive, Styccobond F47 is ideal for use with vinyl floor finishes. Drying to a permanent tacky film, the adhesive reduces the incidence of trowel serration shadowing though the vinyl floorcovering, preserving the smooth appearance of the floor.

Linda Parker, Project Coordinator at STEPS, comments: “We’d like to thank F. Ball for their generous donations to STEPS. The effort, determination and hard work of everyone during the renovation really paid off and STEPS now has a refurbished and extended facility, helping us to continue to enhance special childrens’ lives.”
