Stopgap 700 Superflex excels at school

Flooring contractors faced with timber beams infilled with insulation and overlaid with plywood, used Stopgap 700 Superflex smoothing underlayment to provide a surface suitable for the installation of carpet tiles. The project was a new wing for the Gorsey Bank Primary School in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

The timber joists overlaid with plywood were used over the structural floor slab, which was then brought to a smooth surface through the application of Stopgap 700, a flexible, fibre-reinforced smoothing underlayment.

Stopgap 700 is designed specifically for use over plywood subfloors, which have a potential for limited movement over time. Should cracking occur as a result of such movement, the fibres keep the underlayment integral. It also incorporates the latest Ultra Fast Drying Technology which means the underlayment is walk-on hard after just 60 minutes and allows new floorcoverings to be installed in as little as 3 hours.

The plywood was first treated with Stopgap P131 primer then Stopgap 700 was applied to a depth of 3 – 10 mm as required. Finally, Styccobond F41 carpet tackifier was used to secure Heckmondwike carpet tiles to four classrooms and corridors – some 500m² in all.
