Meet the Team: Daniel Lim
The F. Ball Asia Pacific (APAC) business manager tells us about his career to date and how he manages a diverse operation spanning 28 countries.
We asked Daniel about his background and how he found himself managing such a vast region.
“My path to becoming APAC business manager wasn’t a straight line,” he says. “It was built on a foundation of curiosity, a willingness to step outside my comfort zone, and a genuine passion for understanding how businesses work at ground level. For the past decade, my career has revolved around resilient flooring. I have built specialised expertise in managing sales, operations and market development for specific product lines across the diverse and developing markets of Southeast Asia.”
Daniel adds that making the effort to travel is fundamental to his strategy of building strong client relationships, ensuring operational excellence and identifying market opportunities.
But what does a typical day look like when you’re working across multiple time zones?
“It’s a careful balancing act between strategic planning and managing day-to-day issues,” he explains. “It’s a blend of focussed work, collaboration and constant communication.”
When asked what he enjoys most about this intensive schedule, Daniel highlights the holistic nature of the role.
“There isn’t one single thing, but a combination of making a strategic impact, cultural connection and the fast pace of the work.”
Daniel admits that the cultural aspects that bring him enjoyment are sometimes a source of challenges when asked about the difficulties he faces.
“It goes far beyond just knowing different holiday calendars,” he notes.
However, the hard work pays off. Daniel recalls an achievement he’s particularly proud of:
“A major flooring contractor in Singapore had been exclusively using our primary competitor’s products for 20 years. We managed to win them over and established a new partnership built on proactive problem-solving and customer service.”
Finally, Daniel tells us what he does to switch off outside of work.
“My time outside of work is spent consciously grounding myself and spending quality time with my family.”
