F. Ball SHEQ manager named BASA Chair

F. Ball and Co. Ltd.’s safety, health, environment and quality assurance (SHEQ) manager, Jenny Barnett, has been named chair of the British Adhesives & Sealants Association (BASA).

Jenny has been an active member of the BASA and working groups for more than 16 years, starting as a member of the Health and Safety working group, progressing to leading groups, including chairing Environment and Sustainability, before joining council and subsequently becoming vice-chair two years ago. Together with her colleagues on technical committees, she has been active in helping to drive the BASA technical programme and identifying how to best support its members.

At F. Ball, she is responsible for compliance with standards, making sure that products are of a consistently high quality, as well as ensuring the health and safety of employees and everyone who interacts with the business, and protecting the environment.  Jenny also leads both of F. Ball successful apprenticeship programs designed to secure future skills throughout the business and the industry.

With over 23 years’ experience in the adhesives industry, including more than 18 years working in health, safety and environmental management, she is passionate about manufacturing and sustainability.

Jenny’s stated priorities in her role are promoting sustainability and attracting more young people into the industry and BASA.

Commenting on her appointment, she said: “More than 16 years with BASA has provided me with immense opportunity for personal and professional growth and a deeper understanding of the broader industry. I started as a relatively inexperienced member many years ago, so progressing to the role of chair is a huge privilege and shows the support that BASA and its members provide.

“Securing a sustainable future for our industry goes hand in hand with attracting next-generation talent, and I’m incredibly keen to bring more young people into the adhesives sector and BASA.

“The success of any trade association relies entirely on its people getting involved. As chair, I hope to provide guidance and support to new members and leaders for them to make a difference.”

Jenny’s dedication to the sector was recognised last year when she was awarded the prestigious Max Kochmann Award by the British Adhesives & Sealants Association (BASA).

She follows in the footsteps of other F. Ball leaders who have held the role of BASA chair.
