Project of the month: Kitchen showroom, Plymouth

F Ball Stopgap 850 Case Study Plymouth 240717
Subfloor preparation products from F. Ball have been used to prepare the subfloor of a kitchen showroom in Plymouth.

Stopgap 850 Exterior floor levelling compound, Stopgap F77 waterproof surface membrane and Stopgap P131 primer were used on the 300m2 area, by contractors from Derwent Flooring in Plymouth.

Rising to the challenge

F. Ball’s regional representative advised the contractors to use Stopgap 850 exterior floor smoothing compound to repair the subfloor and bring it to the same level throughout the showroom.

Stopgap 850 is a non-structural exterior grade smoothing compound for use in light to medium traffic areas to smooth and level rough or mechanically damaged concrete or sand/cement screeds. It is ideally suited for smoothing areas such as balconies, patios, garages and walkways and is unaffected by rain or frost when set and dried.

Stopgap 850 is also suitable for internal application over damp, uneven concrete and sand/cement screeds, prior to application of Stopgap Waterproof Surface Membranes, which made it ideal for this refurbishment.

‘Proofing and priming

There was no damp proof membrane previously in place in the showroom, so after applying the Stopgap 850 to create one level floor, contractors applied Stopgap F77 Waterproof Surface Membrane to act as a moisture barrier over the surface of the subfloor.

Stopgap F77 is a solvent free, high performance, two-part epoxy resin system, which cures to provide a Waterproof Surface Membrane capable of impeding the passage of rising damp where relative humidity values are up to 98%.

Lastly, Stopgap P131 primer was applied over the whole area, to make it ready for the installation of the floorcoverings. Stopgap P131 promotes adhesion and prevents unacceptably rapid drying of adhesives and levelling compounds.

Commenting on the project, Darren Wills of Derwent Flooring Plymouth, said: “We are very pleased that our F. Ball representative visited the site of this refurbishment and recommended we use Stopgap 850. The combination of F. Ball products that we used, as always, helped us to create a smooth and even subfloor prior to installing floorcoverings.”
