Craig Gargan from Middlesex Flooring gave us a minute of his time, to answer some quick fire questions.

Name:  Craig Gargan

Age: 47

Company: Middlesex Flooring

Job Title: Managing Director

How did you get into the flooring industry?

I guess you could say that I fell into a flooring job when I left school and 30 years later I’m still in the industry!

What’s been the biggest change in the industry over the past 10 years?

The increase in health and safety legislation has massively impacted the industry-there are a lot more regulations to follow and forms to fill in these days.

Looking forwards, what do you think will be the biggest change in the next 10 years?

I think it’s becoming less popular to be a floor layer and the fewer of us that there are, the higher our prices will be.

What’s the worst job you’ve been on?

Probably an office development refurbishment that I worked on in the city centre-we were called in too early and the other tradesmen on site weren’t ready for us.

And what’s the best?

The best job we’ve ever been involved with was the refurbishment of South Camden Community School-that was the biggest refurbishment that we have ever done and everything ran really smoothly.

Do you have a go-to product for certain jobs?

You’ll always find F. Ball’s Stopgap 1200 in our van!

What do you like best about the job?

The diversity of this job is just great-it’s never boring and each working day is different to the next.

What is your least favourite thing about the job?

It’s never good when you’re called to a job too early and the site hasn’t been prepared for contractors-it prolongs the refurbishment process and is very annoying.
