Job Title: Director

How did you get into the flooring industry?
By accident! I had a chance meeting with someone in a pub who was in the flooring industry – he offered me a job and I’ve been working in flooring ever since!

What’s been the biggest change in the industry over the past 10 years?
The increased amount of health and safety legislation has definitely made the industry both more complicated and more interesting over the past 10 years.

Looking forwards, what do you think will be the biggest change in the next 10 years?
I think the that losing the skills set and knowledge of time served of floor layers will impact on the industry in years to come.

What’s the worst job you’ve been on?
There’s one job that stands out as being particularly troublesome – straight after we completed our work, the builder went bankrupt and we never got paid.

And what’s the best?
We recently completed a flooring installation on a newly built training centre in Newton Abbot. The job ran very smoothly and we were really pleased with the results.

Do you have a go-to product for certain jobs?
Stopgap 1200 Pro is always a winner!

What do you like best about the job?
There are a lot of things that I like about this job; I love seeing customers satisfied with our work and it’s very rewarding to look back on a difficult job that we’ve worked hard to complete. I also like the challenge of winning contracts and enjoy meeting new people.

What is your least favourite thing about the job?
Chasing payment from builders, customers and contractors!
