Product Focus: Stopgap 1200 Pro

We put the spotlight on F. Ball’s minimum preparation, maximum performance levelling compound, which can be applied over old adhesive residues.

What is it?

A low odour, fast-setting, fast-drying, two component levelling compound that is suitable for preparing a wide range of sound internal subfloors prior to the installation of new floorcoverings.

It is specially formulated for use over old adhesive residues (including bitumen and carpet tile tackifiers) without the need for priming, making it ideal for refurbishments that face tight time constraints.

The product is walk-on hard in as little as 60 minutes to set and is ready to receive floorcoverings from four hours.

Where is it used?

Stopgap 1200 Pro can be applied over a wide range of subfloor types, including sand/cement screed, concrete, granolithic, terrazzo, asphalt, steel, old vinyl asbestos tiles, epoxy and polyurethane resins, ceramic and quarry tiles, as well as Stopgap waterproof surface membranes.

Its protein and latex free formulation also make it ideal for use in clinical and biologically sensitive areas, such as hospitals, laboratories and clean rooms.

What’s different about it?

Stopgap 1200 Pro is formulated to minimise the stresses inflicted on adhesive residues as it sets, meaning it is able to maintain its integrity when applied to subfloors with adhesive residues still present. The strength of a regular levelling compound, combined with initial expansion and shrinkage, can cause softer adhesive residues to debond from the subfloor, causing the entire installation to lift and crack, potentially resulting in total failure of the floor.

Something you might not know about the product:

Stopgap 1200 Pro is unaffected by moisture, so it can be applied over damp, clean, uneven concrete and sand/cement screeds prior to the application of a Stopgap waterproof surface membrane or Stopgap Isolator Membrane. This is ideal where rough or uneven screed would cause a liquid waterproof surface membrane to pool in undulations on the surface, necessitating a greater quantity of product to achieve full coverage, adding expense to projects.
