Project of the month: The British Library

A refurbishment at The British Library, by Rosemount Flooring.

Every month, we look at jobs that have been completed using F. Ball products, and pick one that we think made best use of them. This month, we feature a job by Rosemount Flooring UK Ltd., who were subcontracted to install 800m2 of flooring in a total refurbishment of The British Library, which is the second largest library in the world and holds over 150 million items.

Preparation

When contractors arrived on the site, the old floorcoverings had already been taken up to reveal a subfloor of raised access metal panels. Stopgap Fill and Prime was selected to fill in the gaps between the raised access panels and create a smooth, even and primed subfloor.

Stopgap Fill and Prime is a cement based primer suitable for use over raised access panels and flooring grades of plywood, chipboard, MDF and OSB. It has been designed to have a thixotropic consistency, which enables joints between adjacent panels to be filled.

F. Ball’s Styccobond F40 high tack dual bond adhesive was also used to adhere the carpet in the library. Styccobond F40 is a solvent free synthetic polymer emulsion adhesive, developed to provide a peelable bond for release underlays. It can also be used as a permanent or release bond adhesive when fixing carpets.

In their good books

Kevin Roberts, project manager of Rosemount Flooring UK Ltd., said: “We use F. Ball products on every flooring installation that we complete and we can always be sure that they will enable us to create an aesthetically pleasing and durable floor finish. Stopgap Fill and Prime was no exception – it provided the perfect solution to filling in gaps in the subfloor during our refurbishment of the iconic British Library and we were very pleased with the end result.”
