Name:  Kevan Tucker

Age: 57

Company: Nutland Carpets Accessories Ltd.

Job Title: Sales Director

How did you get into the flooring industry?

The company I first joined in 1976 (Machine sales and services Ltd.) distributed flooring materials as well as wood-working machinery. My boss split the business, so that I could take on the flooring side of things and we called it M.S.S. flooring Ltd. I’ve been working in the industry ever since!

What’s been the biggest change in the industry over the past 10 years?

Probably the ever-changing adhesives and screeds that have been manufactured.

Looking forwards, what do you think will be the biggest change in the next 10 years?

Again, I imagine more changes will be made to adhesives and screeds, due to changes in the industry.

What’s the worst thing about your job?

Generally, it’s never pleasant to have to deal with complaints. Some manufacturers take too long to resolve a complaint. Also, it’s always difficult when things don’t run smoothly or when products don’t arrive on time (we haven’t experienced this with F.Ball!) We pride ourselves on our service.

What can manufacturers do to help you?

We always struggle to sell discontinued products when a new range has been introduced or an existing one re-vamped. It would be beneficial to us if discounted products could be taken back and credited.

Is there a product that you find to be particularly popular one?

F.Ball’s new Styccobond F49 Hybrid adhesive is proving very popular as it addresses a lot of flooring issues as it can be used in areas of fluctuating temperatures. There seems to be a big increase in underfloor heating, along with people installing Bi-folding patio doors.
