Project of the Month: University of South Wales

Every month, we look back at our favourite projects that have made the most of F. Ball’s products. This month, we pay a visit to the University of South Wales, where contractors from Puma Floors used Stopgap 1200 Pro Smoothing Underlayment to prepare the subfloor prior to the installation Polyflor vinyl sheet floorcovering.

Preparing the subfloor

The university building had been newly built with raised access metal panel flooring. Stopgap 1200 Pro, a fast setting, fast drying, two component smoothing underlayment was applied over the area of 16,000m2 and within an hour of application, was walk-on hard and was dry enough to receive new floorcoverings from just 4 hours.

A top grade finish

Stopgap 500 Micro floor finishing compound was used to fill any areas where joints between the panels were showing through the underlayment. Styccobond F44, a solvent-free acrylic emulsion adhesive with strong initial tack and high bond strength, was then used to secure the Polyflor vinyl sheet floorcoverings.

Time Saving

Hywel Williams, Contracts Director of Puma Floors said: “Stopgap 1200 was perfect for this project; it saved us 21 days because it dries so quickly, allowing us to provide the university with a quickly fitted, attractive floor in time for the start of term.”
